Hello and welcome to Little Meeples. A blog about board gaming with the little people in your lives. We are very excited to bring this website to you and hope you enjoy the posts we have planned. The site stemmed from our love of board games and how we share it with our children. Over time friends have noticed the new and strange looking games we play with our kids and share on social media. Being so accustomed to mainstream games like CandyLand, Snakes and Ladders, Sorry, and Clue, their interest were peaked by the possibility of something new. The truth is, they are not new, just not well known. The board game industry has been around for a while with many great games, often produced in Europe where the hobby is more prevalent.  Their distribution in North America is limited to friendly local gaming stores (FLGS), so you won’t find them at ToysrUs or Walmart (althought that is slowly changing).

Recommending games to our friends is something we absolutely love to do. So now, we want to do the same for you. Our main goal for this site is to introduce you to games you might not have heard of. Games that have clever mechanics that allow for growth, both socially and cognitively. Games that are fun for your kids to play, but also fun for YOU to play with them.

This website is geared towards two types of parents:

a) The average parent that knows nothing about board games. Don’t worry, you don’t have to sit through another hair-pulling session of CandyLand!  We will show you some great games and the benefits they provide for your children.

b) The hobby board gamer who are just starting to have children. Sure you know all about board games, but probably had no reason to look at kids games until now. We will show you some great games to cultivate those future game partners and how their game mechanics might mirror some of the games you currently love.

We believe board games provide a means for friends and  families to come together and build stronger bonds. We started teaching our kids to play games when they turned three and have seen how it helps us teach them social rules in a fun way. Our hope is that through this website you too can use board games as a teaching tool and also as a fun way to bond with your kids. You’ll be surprised at the innovative and creative ways that your kids strategize to win and how their logic skills develop over the years. Please do drop us a comment and let us know about your experience with your kids.
